My Project

The main part of this project is for individual vocabulary journals for my students to use this year. My students love vocabulary! As their teacher and self-proclaimed "word nerd," that really excites me. Since the students have been learning from home with hopes of returning to school in a hybrid setup soon, I want to keep building on their knowledge but with more organization involved.

These journals will be a great way for the 2nd graders to keep all of their new vocabulary words in one place.

The journals will also allow students to get additional practice with the words such as writing the word meanings, and synonyms, giving picture and sentence examples for the words, and more! In one journal, the kids can keep and review all their vocabulary words in one place. So much additional ELA instruction can be added to these journals to build on their vocabulary knowledge. I also want to use this journal in the other main subject areas of math, science, and social studies, in order to help with vocabulary in those classes as well. The students will also be building on their writing skills while using their notebooks and will be able to see their growth over time as they continue to use the journals all year.
