My Students

Build a better reader! My students are faced with greater vocabulary challenges everyday and our outdated falling apart dictionaries are not making the grade!

My 2nd grade students are ready and willing to explore the world.

During our first week of school they have begged the librarians to check out books. They are incredibly bright and eager students who need updated materials in order to best meet their needs. We live in a small community that has been hit hard by the recession and new materials are not always in the budget.

My Project

New dictionaries will strengthen the vocabulary of my already enthusiastic students. I plan to use these dictionaries as helpful tools to teach children basic research skills, the importance of using the correct vocabulary, and increase comprehension skills. By having these materials more accessible, my students will be able to look up any word they have a question about on their own. I want to encourage my students to explore their world and give them tools to understand it.

My second grade students will someday be doctors, lawyers, and (hopefully) teachers.

The new dictionaries will be a resource to help students begin the fundamentals of research skills that will someday lead to college applications and beyond. Tomorrow's leaders will need the tools to create it, and the early use of these dictionaries will help.
