Mrs. Redmond-Johnson from Lexington MS is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
See what Mrs. Redmond-Johnson is requestingMy students need authentic reading materials to learn a new language. Reading gives them access to vocabulary words they would not otherwise learn.

The students in my school district are very intelligent but don't always have the resources they need to obtain an equal and equitable education. They go on beyond high school to do some amazing things. Doctors, lawyers, and veterinarians have been produced here, which is proof of what a child can do and who they can be when they have the resources!
I am the only Spanish teacher in the district, and as such I hope to be a leading force in foreign and second-language learning and helping students learn to respect intercultural differences and to have peaceful intercultural interactions as GLOBAL citizens of their communities and the communities they visit.
Students in Spanish class will learn both communicative and pragmatic competence in the language and how not to see differences in culture as a threat.
I want to help students who cannot afford school supplies to have what they need to succeed in high school. Funds will also go toward décor, which I will use to give my students a beautiful learning environment. I cannot do this alone. This year, we hope to go on field trips and even travel abroad! Help me give my students a memorable experience!
Books in a foreign language teach important lessons about what is important in a certain culture. Learning Spanish through books also augments English skills. Children learn chunking, collocation, circumlocution, negotiation of meaning, and how to convey ideas in a variety of ways.
These are authentic sources, books written for native speakers of Spanish, and such books will teach children vocabulary, grammar, and cultural values.
Second-language learners can acquire fundamentals of language similar to the way native speakers learn by means of books. Such books also encourage further intercultural research by piquing curiosity and motivating students to delve into a whole new world.
