This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Outdoor learning provides a change of environment that enhances creativity, engagement, and the overall learning experience for students and the community. Taking part in community service improves mental health, increases physical activity, and creates hands-on learning opportunities. Exposure to nature and outdoor settings has been linked to improved mental well-being, reduced stress levels, and increased concentration. Creating public service announcements (PSAs) to engage the community brings these elements together, giving the students a sense of ownership of their community.
Our students are requesting a video camera to create PSAs and help them serve their community, school, and community neighbors by explaining the importance of the outdoor connection to wellness.
Every week, students will encourage their peers and neighbors to join in practicing yoga, stretching exercises, and meditation in the garden, playground, and outdoor areas, motivating any community members who would like to join.
Our vlog camera would allow students the opportunity to record exercising and practices, while student volunteers lead these practices promoting wellness, and allowing those in our community to participate, view, and be notified, via various social media platforms. The vlog camera will also allow us to interview students and community members on how they feel, after attending an exercise, yoga, or meditation class. Recoding these events will provide an opportunity for both students and community members to connect with and appreciate wellness in a natural environment, fostering a sense of environmental stewardship.
In summary, making these wellness videos and sharing them through social platforms can have a transformative impact on education, well-being, and community cohesion. The benefits extend beyond the academic realm, contributing to the holistic development of individuals and communities making my students special in many ways.
