My Students

Music flows around us and through us, waiting for a means to escape. Children have a natural inclination to move and sing, to dance and play to music. Each child has a unique set of attributes, helping mold their creativity and self-expression. As a music teacher, I provide the tools necessary to engage their minds and spark their imagination.

"Music is my favorite class; I can't wait to come back next week!" That is what a student told me today as he was in line getting ready to go back to his homeroom class.

Just like this student, children of all ages love to discover the world around them through the eyes and ears of music. Music encourages students to use higher-level thinking skills, finding creative ways to explore mathematics, science, language, and history.

My students are very diverse and my curriculum must match their needs. We learn to sing in English and Spanish. We use hand signs to work quietly and efficiently during activities. We learn to work together in a cultural exchange provided through the context of music.

My Project

For the last three years, I have hosted a Strings Club at Fairview. Through Fort Smith Foundation grants, generous community donors, and DonorsChoose funding, I have been able to build a group that is 30 strong. However, with this many instruments, I need constant renewal of resources to continue providing a streamlined teaching experience.

Help support my classroom by providing the replacement strings and rosin that is needed to keep all of my instruments in tip top shape.

I want my students to not have to worry about strings that break.

In the last quarter of the school year, my students not only perform in a concert but also teach the rest of my 600 students about the Violin and the Strings family. I try to provide an innovative and unique approach that is hands on and pragmatic. With your help, I know this program will continue to foster developing musicians.
