My students need interesting, engaging books with characters that look, feel and face some of the same challenging issues as they do. Having a classroom library with books from Dear Martin to Harry Potter is vital!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This diverse, excited group of friends has come together with the primary goal of developing and strengthening their literacy skills. My students come from many diverse backgrounds and have a variety of different needs in reading and writing. With 25 diverse friends from various parts of the country and world, we have lots to share with each other!
One of my strongest values and beliefs is that literacy is a lifelong love that is kindled through giving readers the tools they need to successfully connect to their reading and writing.
I want them to develop such a passion for reading and writing that they identify as readers and writers. I each them that with some hard work and determination, they will be successful and on their way to their ultimate goals and dreams!
One thing that we would like you to know is that fostering a love for literacy in my students is the greatest privilege. Literacy will change their lives!
My Project
By giving student choice, access to volume, time to build stamina, and active engagement, we lay the foundation for a long and prosperous literacy journey.
The classroom library provides students with engaging text that they can access during independent reading and beyond.
When you support this project, you help purchase text that my students will relate to and be actively engaged in reading. From the wizard world of Harry Potter to the streets of Atlanta in Dear Martin, my students will be able to step out of the classroom and travel into another world.
Please consider support my students in building a classroom library that reflects their interest and passions. With such a diverse population of students at Falls Church High School, it is vital that my students have access to stories with characters that reflect their lives and the lives of others. Help us take our literacy journey on new adventures!
