Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach PE to students with various Special Needs, including autism, intellectual disabilities, hard of hearing, visual impairment, and orthopedic impairments. I have found that my preschool and TK students are motivated by visual aids when performing object control activities such as fun targets to throw at or thematic station cards. With a Cricut I can create visuals that are specific to MY students, not generic visuals that are not appealing to them. Our schools are still stocked with the same die cut machines that our teachers used when we were growing up! What I love about the Cricut is, I can create virtually anything...I won't be limited to the basic shapes that are available in the work room.
In addition to targets and engaging visuals, the Cricut can help me reinforce vocabulary used in PE.
I can make signs with our verbal cues. For example when we teach throwing we break it down into simple cues: Step, Ear (ball by ear), Throw! I can create visual aides that help my preschool students remember the steps to performing whatever unit we are learning.
My students have individual learning goals, and this will help me keep them on target to achieve those goals!
