My students excel when they are provided opportunities to combine literature and visual arts.
My Art classes are made up of weekend fishermen, hunters and farmers.
These students are a small group of young minds from rural areas on the Big Island of Hawaii. Students strive to manifest their creative thoughts and ideas through various forms of new media. Our students take great pride in everything they create, make, and learn.
My Project
'Marie Dancing' does a great job of stirring visual images as readers take the journey through the story of a girl following her dreams. I am requesting 36 copies of the book for my class. My students will use journals to record their thoughts and respond to prompts after daily readings. Students will have discussions on the significant role of the arts and propose how they could use art as a tool to communicate ideas.
These books will provide students with a deeper understanding of the arts and how they affect lives of people.
Through this grant, my students will have the opportunity to expand on their art literacy!
