Help me give my students access in their classes. A high school braille student will access books and other information on the fly using her phone and iPad with the Hable device.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
We have a great school community where everyone works as a team for my students with visual impairments. All of my students have some vision, however two are served directly for braille lessons. They did so well with the monoculars that I needed to get one for use by my elementary boys who have shown they're becoming mature enough to use them responsibly. Monoculars are great for seeing things across the classroom or on field trips that they could not normally see.
My high schooler is learning to use devices that will help her as her vision decreases and when she graduates.
She has become such an independent young lady and an advocate for herself while mentoring elementary students. She will be able to access some of her reading and other resources on her phone and tablet with the Hable and the digital magnifier.
All the children write by hand and use the computer--and they read enlarged print. However, some still develop neck pain or will get on their knees in their chairs to read and write from their desks. Having slant boards that fit on their desks will help alleviate that problem.
