This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Imagine a classroom where students are not only learning English and History by using books and computers, but also through the use of the latest audio and visual information available. Your donation of Audio/Visual equipment to my Sixth-Grade Humanities Classroom can make this possible! our school is in New York city, and has a diverse student body comprised of recent immigrants and underprivileged children from the surrounding neighborhoods.
Last year, the school welcomed its first sixth-grade class. While the school provided our classrooms with amazing libraries and reference textbooks, we have had a very hard time incorporating the use of the latest video documentaries and news stories into our Global Studies and English curricula because of a lack of audio/visual equipment in the school. For example, while teaching a unit on ancient Egypt, it was almost impossible to secure the use of one of the school's two A/V carts to show the kids a recent story about King Tut's Mummy.
Having a working, classroom audio/visual system would not only help me incorporate more documentaries and news stories into my Global Studies curriculum, but would also help me show students ELA based videos which will help build listening skills, as well as help ESL students learn the language.
Your gift of the audio/visual materials requested will not only help these students receive a visual picture of the world around them, but also allow them to picture the world of the past, bringing the cultures of the ancient world alive! My students will be able to take a visual journey to places that their limited economic resources may never allow them to see in person, building their interest in history, and making the multi-cultural community they live in easier to understand.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
