This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 12- and 13-year-olds are bright and eager young people from mostly immigrant and lower income households. Due to their background, they don't always feel comfortable identifying as American, despite the fact that the majority were born or raised here for most of their lives.

Many of my students struggle to find relevance in learning US history because they haven't seen their lives mirrored in traditional texts.

I see it as my duty to help them make connections to find relevance by providing a diverse set of resources for them to choose from and explore.

My Project

I love incorporating creative projects for students to show their learning. Often times I have students share work that they have created on apps like Canva in our online portal, but I would love to have them displayed in our physical classroom as well.

I want my students to practice their design skills through tech as well as on paper, and being able to highlight those talents is another way to create a classroom culture that all students feel a part of and are energized by.

A color printer in the classroom is one way for students to freely print images for collages or to publish completed work for display. Portable chargers are necessary for students to stay in their seats and keep their devices charged, especially for those in classes towards the end of the day.
