Help me give my students access to graphic novels that will encourage literacy and creativity!
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Waring's classroom raised $970
This project is fully funded
Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The specific graphic novels requested in this project are to provide developing readers an opportunity to review challenging higher level texts through graphic novels. The goal is that they will use the knowledge obtained through the graphic novel to better access the full "traditional" novel at a later time
We no longer have a school library, and my students have both varied skills and interests in regards to reading, so my classroom library need to expand.
To aid in comprehension, the multiple texts chosen for this project include creative graphics to help students visualize the text. The texts on this list are either an accessible and well known pieces of "classic" literature, or are a reimagined version of a classic tale.
My students are special in that each has different interests, as well as different reading abilities, so having access to both the graphic novel and the traditional text in class can help them find meaning, allow them to compare and reflect on their understanding, and can inspire them to either read a challenging traditional text now that they have built a strong foundation, or to create their own!
