This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Currently, I work with students who struggle with math and reading, (Tier 3 students). These students have an understanding of basic facts but struggle with reading comprehension and problem-solving skills. For example one of my students John knows his basic facts however when he is faced with a word problem he struggles with identifying what operation or operations to use. As a math interventionist, I work with 50 or more third, fourth, and fifth grade Tier 3 students using hands-on manipulatives and digital resources. Since the pandemic I am teaching virtually which is a challenge to provide these resources. A Microsoft Surface Pro has all of the features needed to display the visual models to the Tier 3 students who log in which will allow them to actively engage in the lesson.
My Project
This resource will allow my students to visualize and interact with the virtual manipulative from home. The Surface Pro will enable students to not only see the lesson but interact in real-time and make connections. For example, while teaching the lesson if a student has a question I can highlight, underline, or circle important or key info to enhance understanding.
Since the lesson is virtual, the students will feel connected with other classmates using this resource.
My students already have their own challenges, I want to make things easier.
