Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have a very diverse group of 5th graders. They are very goal-oriented and love to work hard so that they can also have fun. We have a lot of mottos in our class, but we love to shout that "I will not give up!" and "We work hard, then we have fun!" They love hands-on projects that they can use their science, math, technology, and engineering skills. They also love to do simulations that incorporate math, science, language arts, and social studies.

"Tell me and I forget; teach me and I remember; involve me and I learn," as quoted by Benjamin Franklin.

These wonderful students love being involved in their own learning. Most of these wonderful kids will say, "Let's do this!" There is nothing they can't do with their positive attitudes about accomplishing great things even when they are hard.

My Project

In this project I have included a lot of visual anchor charts for students to use and implement during our math, language arts blocks, and social studies blocks. I have also included supplies that will be needed during these academic blocks.

My students are visual learners; they need to be able to see multiple representations of how things are solved.

For the current year, I have been designated as the math teacher during our 5th grade rotations. Our goal this year was to multiple and divide fluently. The multiple anchor charts within this project will give students the opportunity to look back and see vocabulary words, multiple visual representations, and a variety of charts that will help them continue to progress through this years difficult math concepts. I am hoping by using visuals, it will help cement the foundations that we are already teaching with our classroom setting.
