My Students

As a math teacher, I get to work with entire grade levels by co-teaching lessons and working with small groups of students. My students are extremely hard working and come into math with a positive attitude. I have worked to instill a growth mindset in my students. This has helped students be open to learning new content and trying new strategies. Despite any challenges students may be facing, they demonstrate perseverance and give their absolute best.

My students are a diverse group who are continuing to learn about perseverance and how to be in control of their emotions.

The students have a lot of expectations and are beginning to learn how to handle emotions. My students are more engaged and demonstrate a stronger understanding of the content when hands-on items or visuals are used. The students especially enjoy learning through inquiry, games, and working with peers.

My Project

To help students understand mathematics, students use visuals to learn how to manipulate numbers. When students begin school, they begin to learn their numbers and how to add them together. The Tiny Dot cards are going to allow teachers to have access to a variety of visuals for the numbers they teach. There are fun games included with the cards that teachers and students will be able to play in small groups. The cards are durable, allowing them to be used over and over.

By using these manipulatives to visualize numbers, students will understand the value of a whole number and fraction.

The students will also be able to use Cuisenaire Rods to help them develop their understanding of fractions, multiplication, and division. These colored bars are a math manipulative that has a variety of uses. Students begin to learn how to multiply with the area model. This can be difficult for some students to understand, by using the visual in a small group, teachers will be able to help their students develop an understanding of how the area model works.
