This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The exciting thing about teaching 7th graders is they are starting to become cognizant of their place in the world and the role that they can play in shaping the world around them. Though our students often come from challenging circumstance, they see nothing but opportunity and they are excited to rise to the challenge!
In our classroom we say that we work on our critical thinking because these are critical times.
Our students live in Jacksonville neighborhoods where the intensity of these critical times is omnipresent and we are working to build a classroom community that is a safe place which allows them to use our Civics curriculum as an agent of change in their community.
Our students are the training to be the change that they wish to see in the world, and your help can make a huge difference!
My Project
If I am not very careful, Civics can become a tiresome drone of primary sources, arcane documents, and tedious note taking. So that's where these art supplies can come in so handy: you can save the kids from boredom!
With these art supplies, I will be able to design creative lessons and project based experiences that deliver what could be dry content in an engaging, colorful, and exciting way.
Kids learn in so many different ways, and I need our classroom to be a place where kids that learn visually, or kids that need to get hands-on, can excel right along with great readers and meticulous note takers. The colored pencils, markers, construction paper, and poster board will allow us to do projects that investigate crucial topics such as citizen rights, the Constitution, and Balance of Powers.
For our country to be as successful as it can we need to value all kinds of contributions, and it is no different in our classroom! Please consider a donation to help bring this vital curriculum alive for ALL students!
