This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year, our students won't benefit from any art program due to cuts in funding. How can I boost their creativity, enhance concentration and attention to details without any supplies?

Usually African American students make up 70% of my class with the rest including a rich diversity of cultures such as Latino and Asian.

Since we are a Social Justice Magnet School, we are teaching respect, tolerance, appreciation, and teamwork. Our students are aware of the issues awaiting them and they are getting ready! Unfortunately, my school is a title I LAUSD without extra funding as most of our parents can't afford donations.

My Project

The kids needs drawing boards and clay for their art class. These supplies would help them with sketching and studying shapes in space. These activities would enhance their geometry instruction as well as creativity skills. Students would practice observation and analysis in order to depict the important lines of the object. They would also understand that they can refine their art like authors revise their writing until they are satisfied with the text. We would start the year with sketching simple items, then learn how to shade. We would explore the 3D forms we can create with the clay, select one, and explain our choice. By mid-year, we should tackle the study of the human lines and try to create an imaginary object with clay. I can't wait!

These supplies would not only develop students' patience, imagination, and critical thinking, they would guide them on the path of self-discovery.
