Help me give my students colorful visual aids that create our visual calendars, behavior charts, positive reinforcement charts, and manipulatives for our math and literacy stations.
I have 26 kindergarten students, several whom are learning English and all who rely heavily on visual cues for many parts of our learning. With a color printer and the ability to laminate, I can create colorful, child-focused calendars, behavior charts, labels and manipulative that we can reuse this year and in many years to come.
One of the first way many kindergarten students learn to read and count is by recognizing beginning sounds that accompany pictures on our daily schedule.
In my class, I have several students learning English, as well as at least 5 with varying language disabilities. Supporting the learning of these students with bright visual aids, games and manipulative will help them make progress, but also help all of the students progress as learners.
Our daily schedule is currently outdated, as it was made by an occupational therapist 5 years ago. We want to update the pictures to color and add new pictures that match our schedule this year. We also use games regularly for both math and literacy work. Currently, our games are printed in black and white and need to be re-copied because we don't have lamination easily accessible, nor do we have color printing easily accessible. The students and I would work together to create classroom tools that will support them in their independence as learners. These tools especially support students with special needs and students learning English, but also create a more inviting space for all.
