My Project
I teach at the only public, tuition-free, college-prep STEM boarding school in California. Our scholars come from underrepresented communities and arrive with bold ideas and strong voices. One of their newest ideas is to launch SEED LA’s first-ever student-led athletics media team—a group dedicated to capturing the energy, passion, and pride of our Grizzly athletes through photography, interviews, and digital storytelling.
To bring that vision to life, they need professional tools.
The Sony Alpha 6100 mirrorless camera will allow them to capture fast-paced sports moments in crisp detail while learning the fundamentals of action photography. Samsung tablets will serve as mobile editing hubs where students will operate user-friendly software to design graphics, cut highlight reels, and manage media content. Wireless microphones will be used for sideline interviews and post-game recaps, while wireless headsets will allow the media team to communicate and coordinate during live coverage. Tripods and protective gear will support safety, stability, and professionalism during every shoot.
Most importantly, scholars will learn how to operate each piece of equipment and software—building hands-on experience in media production, digital literacy, teamwork, and project management. These are real-world skills that connect directly to future careers in communications, journalism, tech, and content creation.
This project is just the beginning. Our goal is to expand this initiative into a schoolwide, student-led media program that covers not only athletics but also clubs, performances, student life, and special events—giving scholars across campus the chance to lead, create, and represent their community through media.
