My students need lighting kits for their portrait studio. My students have the vision, and just need the light to take their ideas and make photo magic!

My Students

My students have the vision, now they need the light! Students in my photography classes have shown great interest in portrait photography. Adjusting our window shades and using a hardware store pan light does not provide the authentic experience and practical application my students deserve.

My photography classes are made up of weekend fishermen, hunters and farmers.

These students are a small group of young minds from rural areas on the Big Island of Hawaii. Student's strive to capture the magic of this unique island when they check out class cameras and bring back photo gems that could brighten a room. Our students take great pride in everything they create, make, and learn.

My Project

Many of my students registered in photography have background interests that range from great curiosity to interest in pursuing career in photography. The light equipment will provide students practice in properly setting up studio lighting. The grant will provide the classroom with two indoor studio sets and an outdoor reflector kit, which in all will enable three to four groups to work simultaneously on portrait projects. Each group will be able to explore ways to dramatically bring light to their live subject and intentionally manipulate moods to captivate their viewers.

When students have the opportunity to engage in authentic learning they are able to cultivate their skills and further their knowledge.

The light kits requested in this project enable students to delve into hands-on learning. Our students, young people teeming with potential and lacking in resources that nurture their creativity, are eager to develop their artistic skills. Please support these young artists as they learn dynamic new ways to utilize lighting to actualize their vision.
