My Students

My students are a group of highly energetic, amazing children with autism in grades 1-5. Many students with autism have difficulties in learning new information, communicating, and social interaction, especially in the new virtual world!

The students I teach range from mild to severe on the autism spectrum.

Teaching this special group of kids has been more difficult with learning being done virtually. Most of the kids in my class need small group and teacher led instruction. Learning through computer based programs are not in the best interest of my kids, but we are making it work! I teach in an urban elementary school in Wisconsin with a high poverty rate.

My Project

Our district is currently in a virtual learning model, with no end in sight. My kids love story time and it has been difficult for the kids to see the books while I read. A document camera would allow the kids to see the pages almost as well as if they were sitting in front of me!

We also have many learners that struggle with letter formation and fine motor skills.

While we are virtual, we still are working on these skills. It would be easier for me to model correct letter formation if I could write and the kids could see in in real time.
