Virtually Unlimited - Bringing VR to the Classroom
Help me give my students exciting and engaging experiences through virtual reality! This is an inclusive way to allow students to participate in activities such as field trips, labs, and so much more!
Over the summer, I attended ISTELive where I was able to demo something called ClassVR. During this demo, I was able to complete a frog dissection lab, explore the human heart and brain, and look at the parts of a cell! I thought, "how cool would it be to open up the world of science to my students through virtual labs and field trips?!"
Not only would this be a safer, more inclusive way to give students amazing science experiences, it's also much cleaner, easier to plan, and (after initial costs and set up) more cost effective.
My goal is to meet my students where they are by bringing science to them in a medium that they understand and that is engaging for them!
Since I teach in a small district with limited funding, I never imagined being able to make this a reality for my own students. I have some of the most brilliant and creative students, and I want to help foster their love for science. I know they could go on to do some amazing things! With the ever-increasing reliance on technology and AI, I believe being able to utilize VR equipment in the classroom to gain new skills can give them a leg up in the real world.
I applied for a grant in September and recently received some funding to put toward purchasing VR equipment for my classroom. Unfortunately, the amount I received only covers a portion of the initial costs. This goes along with a subscription that features thousands of virtual experiences across many subjects, so other teachers in my district could utilize this as well, including those teaching CTE courses!
