This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Due to COVID my 3rd graders have started off this school year remotely. Having been thrown into this new way of learning, has been extremely challenging, especially because they were not used to using technology for every facet of their academic experience. Most students weren’t even familiar with the emailing process!! My students however, have proven to be as persistent as much as they are curious. They have transitioned from frustration to enthusiasm in such a way that has left me speechless. They have risen to the occasion, and I owe it to them to grow as a virtual educator and to develop my craft.

Motivating and encouraging my students to try their best, even under these unprecedented circumstances, is key for their academic success.

At school, my students are used to collaborative and engaging lessons that they enjoy taking part in. It’s important that they continue to practice and apply these skills and strategies while at home.

My students are from a primarily low-income, Hispanic community. It’s my goal is to establish a sense of equity in our virtual classroom with a learning experience similar to that they receive at school in order to support their learning at home.

My Project

Having limited tools and resources at home has been an additional challenge to an already difficult transition, but I am committed to providing effective instruction that parallels that of my traditional classroom. Remote Learning is a new experience for everyone involved. Having these resources will allow me to provide students with more engaging lessons and instruction and fewer episodes of glitching and freezing, which has had an adverse effect on their learning.

My goal is to facilitate the transition from in-person to virtual learning by providing students with the familiarity of instruction that they are used to.

Through the use of the document camera and Mesh Wifi System I will be able to provide explanations and model new skills, strategies, and content for my students. Having the ability to provide real time instruction for them, as they follow along remotely, will allow me to guide them through lessons and provide the necessary visuals that my diverse learners and ELs need to develop and master new content. My students need explicit instruction loaded with visuals and examples to understand and make meaning of our learning objectives. The use of similar technology in my classroom has enriched their learning and has proven to be an affective tool for teaching. The Teachers Pay Teachers gift card will provide my students with engaging, pre-created digital resources that will enhance their learning and reinforce learned skills.
