My Students
The Philippines. Chuuk. Samoa. Tonga. These are some of the places my students come from. For many of my students, my classroom is their first American school system experience.
In my class, we are a family and a small community that shares ideas and learns about the world together.
My students attend a Title I elementary school in a high poverty area. Many of the students live in a nearby housing community and do not have access to technology. They are a diverse group of learners who understand best with hands-on activities that have a real-life application to the world around them. They are eager problem-solvers who enjoy sharing their opinions. Although our resources are limited, they appreciate anything that is offered to them.
My Project
Do you remember all of your learning experiences outside of the classroom? For many of my students, their real-life connections are created through the field trips that students go on. I want to connect the learning done at school and document the out-of-classroom learning experiences using the Ricoh Theta S 360 degree camera and then have students create images and video reflections on their findings. After students produce their 360 degree projects, then they will share their final products using the Google Cardboard and iTouches.
As a 21st century classroom, it is imperative for students to grow as technologically advanced individuals.
This project will engage my students to document their interests and curiosities of the world around them. I want them to have memories of third grade with the most recent technological advancements. These donations will help them take their inquiry studies to a more meaningful and student-driven approach.
