My Students

As a teacher in an urban student population (86% minority and 55% qualify for free or reduced-price lunch), I recognize that my students are faced with challenges in and out of the classroom. My students are mostly low-income. They can't afford to purchase pencils, and their parents struggle to pay for food and clothes. A large number of our students are below grade level in Mathematics and I specialize in working with them.

My students make me smile every day because no matter their circumstances, they make an effort to be successful.

My Project

Math is hard for some students. For my students it is especially difficult - which means it is hard to keep going, keep trying and keep progressing. I push my students to tackle the things that are hard for them, and sometimes they need a reward to keep them motivated.

If learning math in person is difficult, learning math virtually will be even more of a struggle.These small incentives will help me award and reward my students for their virtual math work.

I don't want my students to give up and I don't want their efforts to be "unnoticed" just because I am not there with them. These stickers, fidgets, cards, stress balls, erasers and other small party favors will be mailed to students to make sure they know that I see their efforts.
