My Students

Hello,

My name is Ms. Smith, an art teacher.

My district is virtual, and my students are pretty disappointed that they are unable to create hands-on art. But from looking at their digital drawings, they are very creative and really think outside the box. My students are also very helpful because they help me design lessons.

They are loving and caring, and I can tell they care for me just as I care for them. I know this because one day I was supposed to be busy beautifying the school and I told them a day before what I would be doing and that they didn't have to log in, but I would try to log in from my phone if anyone needed me. So the day came and I logged in. I honestly didn't expect anyone to log in since it was optional, but there they were. A full class waiting on me. I said, "I'm surprised you all are here", and one responded, "We wanted to see our teacher". That really warmed my heart.

I love my students and I am always trying to find ways to keep them engaged and keeping art interesting when teaching it online.

My Project

This school year, my district is virtual. I have been trying to develop different ideas on how to explore different art mediums with my students.

I want my students to experience painting at least once before the school year is over.

With the materials, they will have their own painting set at home, and I can instruct them via virtual class on how to start. We have talked about painting, painters, and different paintings. They were very interested. I would also love to have at least one hands-on project; they can say they have done it before the school year ends.
