Virtual Reality Museum. The Next Frontier!

My students need ten Google Cardboard Virtual Reality headsets for a 360 degree virtual museum tour.

My Students

The future is here!!! Yes, in my classroom students will be asked to engage with all types of resources to help find their unique learning style. I like to keep it interesting, fresh, and fun. I want my students to have a tremendous and unforgettable learning experience in Social Studies.

I have a very diverse student body consisting of Caucasian, South Asian, East Asian, Middle Eastern, and African American students.

I also have English Language learners as well as some students who were refugees; all of my students make my school a diverse and exciting place for learning.

My Project

I was faced with the problem of, how I can get my students to experience great museum? Field trips can sometimes cost a tremendous amount of money, and the logistics of taking an entire grade out of school for the day can impact students by losing instruction time in their other classes. I have acquired a 360 degree camera and have visited museums recording gallery walk through. My students can then watch the video completely seeing the museum in 360 degrees!! The Google Cardboard Virtual Reality headset is for a complete immersive 3D experience. It is very new technology and the kids are so excited to be some of the first students in the country to use it in this way.

Some of my students have never experienced the enjoyment of learning by looking at and examining artifacts.

This project has peeked my students interest and engagement in the material. They are excited to learn using these headsets, and although it is never going to be like going to the actual museum, it is an interesting way to learn. Through my searches, no one I can find is doing anything like this in the country. I plan on adding more museums & historical sites through my summer travels.
