Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are in Kindergarten-sixth grade.
They have disabilities including, but not limited to autism, specific learning disabilities in both auditory and visual processing delays, developmental delays, ADHD, speech and language impairments, among other disabilities.
Our school is located in a rough area of South Los Angeles, where the majority of students come from very low-income households.
My Project
I'm always looking for ways to get my students interested and have them learn in fun ways. Most of my students need constant movement and things that will keep them engaged. When I learned about this interactive device, I immediately researched to see how it could use it with my students.
The abundance of ways that it can be used academically is exciting.
I can have my students visit virtual museums, take nature walks and be active. The most exciting way is to learn math in an active manner.
This Oculus virtual reality headset device can provide my students with different ways to be active while learning to count and the value of numbers. My students can learn how to use, identify, and count real looking money to lead to financial literacy success.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
