My Students

Many of the students in my classroom have experienced trauma in their lives, and school is their safe place. They come to school to escape what is happening at home. My classroom serves students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder, and specific learning disabilities.

The typical student in my class struggles with basic phonemic awareness and letter recognition.

About 90% of my students are African American or Latino. The opportunity and achievement gaps are apparent among our student population.

My Project

I am requesting various items for virtual learning. I am going to send home packages to my students that contain pencils, crayons, and Play-Doh. I am going to send these items in pencil boxes and pencil cases. I am hoping that my students will use these items at home while I teach them virtually. I am also asking for a dry erase board and some books for me to use at my house while I teach. I am asking for some masks, as well. With the intention that I can go into to see my students during kindergarten interviews.
