Virtual Learning Headphones

Help me give my students headphones with a microphone attached in order to help encourage participation in class.

My Students

This is an urban middle school where 50%+ students are of color and come from low-income households. We are a dual language immersion ( DLI )school and have many families who are native Spanish speakers. We have all ability levels and pride ourselves on creating a building where all are welcome.

My Project

Due to COVID-19, my students are still learning virtually. This means that their siblings are learning virtually too. Students are in situations where there is noise and added distractions.

In order to increase class participation, the students need headphones with a microphone.

The students can not verbally participate for two main reasons. First of all, students have headphones plugged into their Chromebooks to eliminate the background noise in their environment. In order to respond, the student needs to unplug the headphones, this permitting the class to hear the other noises that are happening. Secondly, the students do not have headphones at all. This makes it hard to hear what is going on in class, before the consideration of speaking is even a possibility.
