This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires." -William A. Ward
With peer learning, we empower those who have mastered the skill and provide those learning with another example or strategy.
The students at our school come from a socioeconomically low area with a lack of parental and financial support.
Many of our students have very limited access to basic materials and technology in their homes. Due to this limited access, the teachers do their best to provide the students with exciting and motivating learning opportunities.
My Project
In order for students to be successful, they must have the ability to explain their understanding of a concept, skill or what they have read. Providing students with a fun and useful way of expressing this understanding is the goal of my project.
Students will create a paper slide show utilizing the copy paper and markers to explain a concept, story or skill in a step-by-step format. The paper slide show will be recorded utilizing the 2 digital cameras I am requesting while the student explains each slide step-by-step or slide-by-slide. This recording will then be uploaded to the school's YouTube channel.
Students from our school and all across the virtual world will have access to this student-made explanation that can be used for home learning, review or re-teaching. Essentially our students will be creating a resource that can be used to teach others and develop the language of thorough explanation which is a concept that is heavily assessed.
The students completing the paper slide shows will gain confidence and develop their language in explanation.
Those viewing the paper slide shows through YouTube will have the use of this resource when studying or completing home learning. Many times, a student's best teacher is another student.
