My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to provide my students with the best learning experiences possible.

My students are hungry to learn to read!

Many of them are being raised in single-parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical." From the minute they walk into our school, I want to be able to provide them a topnotch education with the very best potential for future success.

My Project

I am requesting a class set of paper copies of the two books that students will use during our unit study over the Civil War. We want to look at the reasons our country came to the point of fighting within over the issue of slavery.

My students that are 100% virtual learners need these books at home to read and refer to during our class discussions.

Using digital versions of the text online is difficult for students. The ability to look at the book online while also being a part of an online meeting is very difficult unless you have two separate screens. Most of our students online have one Chromebook and struggle to swap back and forth. having the book we are studying in their hands will make this easier and more productive for the students' learning.
