This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a small Title I high school located in the Flatbush area of Brooklyn. We are located in "Asthma Alley," and sandwiched between two major urban bridges - the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges.

All of my students are recent arrivals to the United States and English Language Learners (ELLs).

They come from every part of the globe seeking a new life of opportunity and freedom here in the United States. They come with the hope that education will allow them to meet their full potential. Many are on public assistance; many others are barely surviving. Yet, my students are expected to meet the same educational standards as more affluent students of New York.

My Project

COVID-19 has made a dramatic impact on education. How we teach must consider the safety of students and staff before anything else. There is an overwhelming chance that distance learning will be the norm until a safe and effective vaccine is available to all.

Virtual science labs may provide the rigorous, digital, hands-on experience that may not be possible during the pandemic.

The cost (especially with the anticipated budget cuts) is beyond the ability of my school to cover. I am therefore asking for your help to fund this much needed project.
