Virtual Hands-On Learning!

Help me give my students materials that they can use for hands on learning during virtual learning. Having math manipulatives like base ten blocks, coins, and clocks will help solidify math concepts for them!

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Aguilar's classroom raised $670

My Students

Second graders are still very concrete learners. They need real examples and they need to manipulate their learning with their hands.

Having resources available to them at home while we are doing virtual learning will be an amazing support for their skill development.

Math manipulatives, editing tools for their writing, and even some art materials to be creative with will support my second graders during this unprecedented time.

These students come from a variety of backgrounds and homes. Many come from refugee or single parent families and several of them are learning English as their second language. Our classroom is an equal playing field where all students have the opportunity to feel safe, have fun and learn with their peers.

At our school, we believe that all students are capable of success, no matter the obstacles they face. In addition to shaping well-rounded people, we are committed to high-quality instruction for every child, every day, in every (face to face or virtual) classroom.

My Project

School no longer looks like we once knew it. Yes, buildings are closed but teachers and students are still working hard at developing skills. Many students are at home without the needed and familiar supplies that they have come to know.

Developmentally, second graders need to actively engage in their learning through manipulating materials.

My second graders are at a risk of not solidifying skills that will support them in later grades. By providing them with math manipulatives such as base-ten blocks, analog clocks, and money they will be able to take the needed steps from concrete to abstract math concepts. Whiteboards will allow them to show their thinking and try different strategies in math, practice their phonic skills, and stop and jot their thinking during read alouds. In writing, editing is a huge skill that we work on. Constantly going back and revising to make our writing the best it can be. With tape and post its, students can cut their writing apart and tape new ideas in or use a post it to insert an idea. Watercolors and construction paper will give my students an outlet to be creative during this time of unknowns.
