Virtual Globetrotters

My students need two digital cameras.

Motivated students are seeking new ways to communicate globally! I work with motivated inner-city high school students who are interested in creative, innovative, inexpensive ways to communicate with people in Spanish-speaking communities. As a dedicated, evolving professional, I have stayed up to date with all types of technology. I am a Spanish teacher, but because I feel technology is so important I obtained an instructional technology license. My students and I have used video, digital photos, email, and snail mail to maintain authentic contact with Spanish speakers around the world. I'd like my students to be able to record more interactions, skits, and photos that would demonstrate the skills they are learning in Spanish. Additionally, I want students to make digital portfolios to help them maintain what they learn and use that learning to help them in college.

Students are highly motivated, but in many ways inhibited by the lack of technology at our school. Our school serves over 1500 students who have access to approximately 50 computers, and only about 10 digital cameras!

If two more students had video/digital cameras in their hands, students would be able to record more interactions in target languages, we would be able to send more verbal communication via the Internet, and students would be accessing and using more technology.

Your assistance will give these students the means necessary to apply technology into the subject area they are studying. When they arrive at universities, they will not feel overwhelmed and baffled by the the ubiquitous use of technology.
