This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember how you felt when you took your first school field trip? Unfortunately my Kinder students won't remember because they won't be taking a trip due to drastic budget cuts in education. As a concerned teacher, I must fill in the gap with virtual field trips through technology resources.
I have been teaching Kindergarten for 16 years in a very low socioeconomic area of Southern California.
Our school is a Title I school and all the students receive free lunch, meaning that these families are living at or below the poverty line. There are many living arrangements and family structures in my class. A lot of the students have very limited to no technology available to them outside of the school environment. Most students are learning English as a second language. Even when they are faced with many challenges both at home and at school, they are enthusiastic and eager to learn. My students are hungry for knowledge, knowledge that will get them ready for college. My students are scholars that understand the importance of hard work and try their best to meet their goals. All the parents want the best education for their child and they try to do the best they can and they rely a lot on our school.
My Project
My students need a tablet to access online resources and enrichment which will empower my students to learn more. With the tablet, my students will be able to visit different places in the community such as the zoo, museums and famous landmarks through video clips and up to date pictures. To fill the language gap, students can use the tablet to search video clips in their home language. They will also learn how to use technology as a resource for other educational needs such as reading short stories, poems, write about their reading and use apps. that will foster great mathematical minds. The tablet is a vital resource that will provide them with many opportunities to enhance their knowledge, knowledge that they would not have received outside of the school setting.
As Albert Einstein said, "the only source of knowledge is experience!" Your donation will empower my students in their quest for knowledge and make learning more meaningful and fun.
I want to prepare my students for the 21st Century so that they can compete with their peers whom are more fortunate. With your generous donation, my students will be able to take a field trip around the world.
