Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

STEAM education has been a major push in education for years now, and esports is one of the fastest growing areas connected to and loved by today's youth. If we truly care about the future enrollment of our school and the continued development of our message, then this program/team, with the incorporation of the esports STEAM ED Curriculum, is a vital piece that some of the highest performing/rated schools in our district already participate in.

Esports and STEAM should not be limited to the haves and the have-nots.

The Brooklyn School for Social Justice(a Title I school in the heart of Bushwick) can be a beacon for equity.

Our students mostly play on consoles and do not all own gaming computers. I want to open their eyes to another possibility, sim racing is another form of esports that is usually cost-prohibitive but can be more accessible. When I brought in my personal sim rig, it generated a lot of interest and excitement from the students, especially the students who enjoy "car culture". We have been invited to participate in an official ESSEF iRacing league but lack the PC capabilities. These PCs and future upgrades will allow us to expand upon our current successes.

Since there is no current infrastructure present for sim racing in our area or the US for high school esports, we could pioneer this area and sell it to other schools and turn it around the nation. This is how we create a more just tomorrow, a Title I school leading the way with a program that no other school has that could potentially be used by other schools nationwide.
