My students are hard workers, who more often than not, are told life is unfair when they see the world around them through the internet. I'm tired of always explaining to the kids why they can't do something, or have something. All children deserve equal chances, and yes some may see technology as frivolous, but think of the way a child who has never sat in front of a PC will see it, no longer looking behind someone's shoulders online, but seeing it for themselves and experiencing it for the first time in person.
Some of the children lack televisions, consoles, some lack PCs all together, some lack cell phones, but this isn't about what they lack, it's about what they could have.
With this type of gaming hardware available, the students will be able to experience virtual reality, and the students will be able to do themselves what they have only seen others do online.
My students have heard of virtual reality and seen it on television, movies and different media sources, but few if any of them have ever had a chance to experience it first hand. With the recent movie Ready Player Ome, and the advancing field of virtual reality, students are more driven than ever to find out what this new field of technology is all about. I have an H.T.C. Vive virtual reality set, but at our school, we don't have a single computer capable of running a virtual reality set.
With this laptop, my students won't just be able to see cutting-edge technology, but they will truly be able to experience it.
Virtual reality allows them to explore Google Maps in a way that the world before had never experienced. When we read Shakespeare's plays, they can visit the locations of those plays. They can tour the inside of bodies and the deepest parts of the oceans.
Most of my students have never left the cities in which they were born, but with technology, the world will open up to them in ways that they can currently only dream of.
