Even before we went to distance learning, my special education students needed to see the work being completed.
I teach a self-contained class of 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students.
Although my students struggle academically, they are all motivated to do well and succeed in school and in life!
With our new challenge of distance learning, my students need materials at home to achieve academic success. When we left school on a Friday afternoon in March, we didn't know that we would not be back. Many of my students have no supplies and limited access to technology at home.
My students have amazed me with meeting the challenge of continuing to engage and learn remotely. However, there are supplies that I personally do not have at home that would help them in these challenging times.
My Project
My self-contained special education students are really struggling, especially in math. When we are in class, many examples and practice problems are completed step by step on the chalkboard. They see a problem being written out, the steps involved, and solved in real-time.
Typing into a computer is just not helping my students make the same visual connections that they achieve in a classroom.
I am trying to find ways to recreate the learning experience that was so successful in our classroom from home.
My hope is that a document camera will help us in our virtual meetings to replace our chalkboard experience until we can be in class together again. I need the bright paper, paper & lined legal pads, sharpener, colored felt pens and clipboards to create the graphics so my students can see the step by step problem solving process.
Help me give my students a better way to see examples of work while distance learning. While working remotely, a document camera will be my virtual chalkboard/smartboard.
