My students are learners, readers, and future leaders. They are exceptional and absolutely love reading, as well many are frequent patrons of the library. Avid fans of the latest best-sellers and award winners, students read not only for enjoyment but also for their classes.
"The more that you read, the more things you will know.
The more you learn, the more places you'll go." I think Dr. Seuss was right, the students of my school have many more books to read, many more things to learn, and many more places to go. With your help, they can accomplish those things.
My Project
The students of our school LOVE to read. They love good books and nothing draws them in more than our Virginia Reader's Choice books. Every year books are chosen by educators throughout the state as the top books to read. At the end of the year, students who have read the books are able to vote on their favorites and a winner is chosen from nominees across the state. This contest and the reading of the Virginia Reader's Choice books is a popular endeavor for many of our students.
Throughout the majority of the year, we have so many students reading the Virginia Reader's Choice books that we actually do not have any on the shelves.
Our goal is to bring the length of books holds for these titles to under one month. Unfortunately, we cannot do that without your help!
These books are also used for our wonderful book challenges. Students read books and compete in a challenge within their class. In order for challenges to occur, we must have enough copies for at least 12 students to read the books at one time. This is a lofty endeavor and one that requires a lot of books. The hard work is worth it though when students are able to find a book that they love and encourage others to read it. This is why having enough copies of these books in our library is important. All students deserve the chance to read a great book and have their imagination carry them through the pages.
