it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
In its second year at GMS, the mariachi program will be doubling in size and more violins are needed in order to keep up with the increase in student numbers. My students need instruments of their own to take home for the semester to practice. Many are discovering music for the first time and are excited to build confidence, teamwork, and discipline through this program.
To keep up with growing demand, my students need more violins to complete our "Intro to Mariachi" ensemble.
Violins are a central part of mariachi music. Having these instruments will ensure that every student can have their own violin to take home and practice in order to improve their skills.
These violins will make a significant difference by providing students with hands-on learning opportunities. These tools will help them develop technical skills, practice discipline, and experience the joy of making music together. Music education also fosters creativity, improves focus, and supports academic success, giving students valuable skills that extend beyond the classroom.
Goals for This Project:
-Equip every student with the necessary instruments to participate fully in the mariachi ensemble.
-Teach students foundational music skills, including reading music and ensemble performance.
-Foster a love for music and cultural appreciation while building their confidence and teamwork abilities.
