This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a reading interventionist and teach for a few Reading Pull Outs (lowest 25% and projected level 1's and 2's on the FSA), work with Tier 3 Kindergarten-2nd graders, and I also am in charge of the Teen Trendsetters Program. The students in this program consist of middle schoolers (mentors) and KG-3rd Grade students (mentees). All students within my Title I school receive free or reduced-price lunches and are from low-income areas.
My Project
Disney stories are usually told from the hero's point of view, but what about those villains? As a Disney-loving teacher, I definitely always side with the villains. My students will have the opportunity to choose their side and explain why-- after reading these amazing books.
I always tell my students that you can get lost in a book-- I want my students to love reading especially since the students I see are the lowest readers in the school.
However, if they learn to LOVE reading, they will be reading the rest of their life and EVENTUALLY, will become avid readers.
The circle dots and the stickers will be used as incentives for my students as they progress and read through their reading log and books. They can choose to write on the circle dots for the day (instead of in their notebook) or receive a sticker after they have read 25 books.
