My Students

A classroom without barriers. That is what I am looking to provide for students this school year. We focus on equity, where everyone gets what they need, but an even better scenario is a classroom with no barriers. Everyone can succeed when there are no barriers to their learning.

I teach special education students who experience barriers everyday in all they do.

I want to provide an environment where there are no barriers and students can experience success each and everyday.

My Project

I am requesting a piece of video capturing technology called a Swivl. This device, when paired with an iPad, will enhance student learning by allowing educators and students to view the learning environment from other perspectives. We will be able to see learning not only from a teacher's perspective but from a student's perspective as well. The goal in using this technology is to allow student's with special needs to access regular education lessons in alternative settings. By recording the lessons students are receiving the same content but at a different time or in a different space. This will allow remove the barriers to learning that many students with behavioral disabilities face when they become unregulated and find it difficult to remain within the regular education classroom. The Swivl will make it possible for students who need extra processing time for language to go back and watch a video repeatedly to organize and process complex language at their own pace. This device will move and record anyone who holds a tracker, which means not only is the teacher recorded but any student that also speaks will be recorded. This technology allows a teacher to record lessons without needing another person or student in the room to record.

Another benefit of using this technology is that teachers can use the video to enhance teaching practices.

It allows teachers to examine their teaching methods and observe what was going on in group discussions away from the lesson. Teachers will have the ability to go back to see and hear if students were engaged in the lesson and leading discussions around the presented lesson or topic. Teachers will be able to learn from colleagues about how they teach a concept or lesson that is more successful. This technology can allow for greater collaboration.
