I truly believe that I am blessed with the most amazing students! This is my ninth year of teaching fourth and fifth grade at a Title I school. Over fifty percent of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. I have forty-three students this year in just two classes with all types of learning styles!
Each year, I focus on creating a classroom environment that keeps my kids excited about coming into the classroom.
We treat each other like a family and make sure everyone feels included.
My Project
Let's face it...chairs just aren't comfortable! Each student has their own learning style, and by allowing students a choice, we are empowering them to choose a seat that best meets their individual needs. Research shows that students are able to focus and do their best work when they are comfortable. Aren’t we all?
Having the flexibility to move around while working and be comfortable at the same time is important.
My students need two more Vidget 3-in-1 Seats so that more of them can fidget while they work. Vidget Seats can be used as an active seat, a stool, or a desk!
Every year, expectations for elementary aged children become more demanding. We expect them to sit and get every last piece of information that may or may not appear on the state test at the end of the year. Now imagine students having to learn all of this information while sitting in a hard chair at a table all day long! That shouldn't be expected. Research shows that flexible seating helps students burn more calories, use up excess energy and increases motivation and engagement. If students are expected to be successful learners, we need to provide them with the tools they need for success.
