Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are amazing. They come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over 60% of our students receiving free lunch. Our school is also one of the most ethnically diverse schools in Los Angeles. Students speak a multitude of languages including English and Spanish. As diverse as our students are economically and culturally, they are diverse in their academics. We are also home to a STEAM program where our students conduct research and participate in a Science Explorers Academy. There are a multitude of teams and clubs that fit the needs of everyone.

My Project

Our award winning students are on a roll! They have been working on projects and are ready to present! Students will use the camera to make digital stories about their culture and community. Students will learn how to compose video shots and edit their video to tell a compelling story about their community. The donation will allow students to use current technologies, understand the processes and apply them to current job market standards. A large presentation format such as a smart TV or monitor will allow our students to work with a professional editing system. My ELL students will gain confidence in their communication skills by having the opportunity to produce a story using current technology. Students often get discouraged with a class when they are using obsolete equipment and materials.
