Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The work in computer class has focused on the basics, Office applications, Web 2.0 tools, and some video editing using royalty free video clips. However, the school has no video equipment to film school activities, or for students to create and star in their own movies or skits.
Currently the high school has a high concentration of students living below the poverty line, about 95%.
The school is mostly African America, Latino, and Asian. The school has many different activities for students and they have the ability to choose from different electives.
The students have a lot of pride in their school. There are many different activities that go on inside and outside of the school. Students want to showcase the school and activities. Students' parents work sometimes two to three jobs to make ends meet. It is very hard for the parents to make it to school events. Students want to show family members and the community the great things going on at the school, but we have no way to film these things.
My Project
Currently there is no video equipment in the school. The equipment will serve several purposes. The video equipment will allow for different events in the school to be filmed, as well as the the sports teams. Once filmed, students will be able to edit the video and post the material on the school website to highlight those activities for families and the community. My students need the drone quadcopter and GoPro Camera will allow students to shoot video of different school events from different angles.
Once those items are filmed, students will be able to work in the computer lab and edit the video to put together their skits and movies for the school community, as well as have them serve as highlights for the school on the school's website.
There are different mediums through which students can express themselves, video is one of them.
The equipment will enable students to engage in meaningful activities that will highlight and ultimately benefit the school.
Students will be able to express themselves through a different medium and show what they can do.
Students will be able to combine language arts, music, art, and technology to produce different videos and use the equipment to video different activities at the school and share them with the community.
