This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My students are in a high-need, urban school. They are bucking the odds, working hard and taking a difficult physics class.

Usually students solve boring, prescribed problems in physics that are so simplified that they are unrealistic. We would prefer to analyze real world problems, like the trajectory of a water balloon or the flight of a basketball.

We have computers available to us. We have software that allows us to analyze video files. ALL we need is a camera that captures video footage of everyday events so the students can capture and import the footage and analyze the motion. This will allow them to study events and phenomena that interest them, thus allowing them to use physics to meaningfully explore problems that capture their interest.

Physics is an elective course: making it FUN will help kids choose to do the hard work and gain an edge heading to college.
