Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach a kindergarten/first grade combination class of 20 students. My students ages range between 5 and 8 years old. There are over 20 different languages represented at my school, and most of my students are English language learners. As an instructor of young students with many different language skills, I often find the need to rely on photographs, pictures and other visual aids to teach vocabulary and reading, as well as social studies and science. My classroom lacks a clear set of pictures to use as visual aids. On several occasions I have reached for a dictionary to illustrate a vocabulary word and I am unable to find an appropriate picture. I would like to purchase a set of alphabet books that contain clear photographs. I have found a set of books that contain large photographs with clearly printed labels. All of my students would be able to use these books as dictionaries or as a reference for drawing. They would also be able to use these books to develop writing skills such as writing complete sentences and using adjectives. I would use them to build vocabulary. The books would also be an invaluable aid in teaching letter recognition and letter sounds. Thank you for considering this proposal.
