This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

They are incredibly sincere and hard working people. However, they struggle daily with the symptoms of autism. The autism affects each of them differently, but they all struggle with communication.

Some are non verbal and communicate through art, gestures, and pictures.

Some are withdrawn, and some are highly social. However, they all experience difficulty relating to others, and as a result they have experienced more than a fair share of derision. Most come from low income households and all attend a very low budget school.

My Project

My students have been studying the nutritional value of fruits and vegetables and have requested to expand the class garden. Before the pandemic we would use the produce from our garden prepare healthy in class meals. During the pandemic, students pick up the produce to eat at home with their families.

We really need a wheelbarrow.

For several years we have been moving soil and debris with large buckets that we carry from place to place by hand. A wheelbarrow will increase our productivity and make gardening even more enjoyable.
