My Project

Walking into our high school ELA classroom should feel like stepping into your favorite corner of a quirky indie bookstore. Curtains, rugs, and some thoughtful decor could transform our room into a place where students want to sink into a good book, linger over writing, and share ideas. I want teens to feel like this is their space, a place that welcomes them as readers, writers, and thinkers. The right atmosphere will help them see reading not as a chore, but as something they choose because it feels good to be here.

Along with the cozy makeover, a Teachers Pay Teachers gift card will let me stock up on fresh, engaging activities to launch the year.

Think interactive literary challenges, creative writing prompts, and discussion games that spark curiosity from day one. I know the magic that happens when students feel both comfortable and challenged.

My seniors will be reading Beowulf, the oldest surviving epic poem in the English language. To end the unit in a fun and memorable way, we will transform our classroom into a 'mead hall.' Students will write boast speeches and present them to the class. There is a costume contest and a tower-building contest. We hope to include treats in our celebration. I already have jeweled goblets and am requesting apple juice. Students would like treats such as Takis for 'dragon's fire,' Swedish fish, Danish cookies, and more. They will play Pin-the-Arm-on-the-Grendel, and the winners in each class will win a bag of gummy 'body parts.'

With your support, this room will become more than a classroom. It will be a creative hub where stories are shared, voices are heard, and every student feels like they belong.
